What Afreximbank Does
The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) is a pan-African multilateral financial institution established in 1993 to promote and finance intra- and extra-African trade. Headquartered in Cairo, the Bank plays a leading role in advancing Africa’s trade-driven development and strengthening economic ties across the Global South.
Afreximbank operates as a supranational institution with preferred creditor status, delivering financing, guarantees, and advisory services that support trade, industrialisation, and investment across its member states. Its diverse shareholder base includes African governments, central banks, financial institutions, private investors, and international partners.
As part of its broader mission to build global trade ecosystems, Afreximbank opened its Caribbean Office in Bridgetown, Barbados in 2023 — a landmark step in deepening Afro-Caribbean collaboration. The Barbados office serves as a regional hub for partnership, policy dialogue, and programme delivery across the Caribbean.
Through initiatives like Careers in the Caribbean, Afreximbank is helping to unlock the region’s human capital potential — supporting talent return, skills mobility, and long-term economic resilience.
